Tanner McGuire was hired as the Parks and Recreation Director on June 5th 2018. He graduated from Midwest City High School in 2003, received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2009, and a Master’s Degree in Sports Administration from East Central University in 2015. Tanner is a member of the Oklahoma Recreation and Parks Society, the Oklahoma Municipal League, and the National Recreation and Park Association. He serves as the Public Recreation Board City Liaison and the Choctaw Economic Development Authority City Liaison. He is certified in CPR, First Aid, and has completed many seminars and other training in parks and recreation continuing education. He has worked in the sport and recreation field for over 13 years in a variety of capacities.
He is a strong advocate for the idea that parks and recreation services are capable of enhancing the quality of life and the health and well-being of the people, community, environment, and economy. His vision for the Parks and Recreation Department is to provide areas that help individuals reach their potential by ensuring healthy, active, and balanced lifestyles. Through parks and recreation services, he envisions the Department building strong relationships throughout the community, collaborating to support families of all kinds, nurturing leadership in our youth, and serving as a steward of the City’s natural environment.
He is dedicated to serving the citizens and making the parks, recreational facilities, and programs the pride and joy of Choctaw. He is excited for the future of the Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Choctaw and looks forward to meeting you at the number of events he will be coordinating throughout the year.
