Grant Announcements

The City of Choctaw takes pride in announcing the grants awarded to our city, which will provide support for a range of initiatives and projects. Grants are essential funding sources for cities and by sharing the grants we have received; we aim to celebrate the positive impact that these funding opportunities have on our city.

Development Services

2023 Community and Economic Resiliency Initiative/ ACOG/ OU Institute of Quality Communities - Develop planning demonstration (demo) sites that will model strategic community and long-term economic investment with a focus on placemaking and cultural heritage tourism.

2024 Paint Oklahoma Beautiful Program - The Paint Oklahoma Beautiful Program revitalizes neglected community structures by providing fresh paint and supplies. Through this initiative, HIS Paints generously donates paint, and the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality offers a stipend for additional materials, enabling volunteers to transform these structures with creativity and dedication.

The city submitted five applications, and all were awarded. The applications that were submitted were for-

  • The Police Department and the Police Department Garage

  • City Hall

  • The Development Services Building

  • The Senior Center

  • A power washer.

2024 Solid Waste Management Grant
The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) oversees the prevention, control, and mitigation of pollution caused by solid waste that poses a threat to human health or the environment. Funding is from the Oklahoma Solid Waste Management Act.

  • Project Awarded is the 2025 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event t Choctaw Creek Park.

Public Works

Transportation Alternatives Grant/ Department of Transportation/ ACOG- Sidewalk for Harper & N.E. 23rd Street crossing and sidewalk to go from Harper south of 23rd St to west on Gilbert St to Choctaw Road.

Transportation Alternatives Grant/ Department of Transportation/ ACOG- Safety project for pavement marking on Harper between NE 23rd and NE 10th.

Transportation Alternatives Grant/ Department of Transportation/ ACOG- Safety project for pavement marking on Henney Road between NE 36th and SE 15th.

Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act/ Federal Transit Administration- Safety Project/ Flashing Stop Signs.

Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act/ Federal Transit Administration- Safety Project/ Indian Meridian School Zone.

Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act/ Federal Transit Administration- Safety Project/ Choctaw Road/ Street striping.

Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act/ Federal Transit Administration- Safety Project/ SE 15th/ Street Striping.

Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act/ Federal Transit Administration- Safety Project/ Resurfacing Westminster Road/ Shared Project with MWC.

Parks and Recreation

2024 Parks & Public Space Initiative/Margaret Annis Boys Trust- The Parks & Public Space Initiative promotes the beautification, development, and activation of neighborhood parks, community parks, school parks, trails, and other public spaces. This initiative originated from the Margaret Annis Boys Trust.

  • "Gateway Gardens"- This project involves installing perennial, drought-tolerant flowerbeds around gateway signs at various parks, the cemetery, the Veterans Memorial, and at the city's entry points along 23rd Street.

2024 OCEA Community Improvement Grant- For the replacement of flag poles in Veterans section of Elmwood Cemetery.

2023 Oklahoma City Community Foundation's Older Adult iFund- The Senior Alliance Program for the Choctaw Senior Center.

2023 Walmart/ Community Grant Program- Community Special Events Funding.

Oklahoma Tourism & Recreation Department/ Recreational Trails Program- 10 Acre Lake Trail Phase 1 and 2 –Trail around 10 Acre Lake. Phase 1 Grant is approved.

TYPES OF GRANTS

Allocated versus Unallocated Funds

Allocated grant funds are funds that have been specifically designated for a particular purpose or project.

Unallocated grant funds provide flexibility in how the funds can be used.

Grant recipients are required to utilize the granted funds exclusively for the intended purpose as stated in their application.
