The City of Choctaw invites all residents to an open house to introduce the Unified Development Code project and to answer brief questions from attendees. This event will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 4:30 pm at Choctaw City Hall. The Unified Development Code project aims to update and streamline Choctaw's zoning and subdivision regulations. Over the next several months, the Development Services and Planning Department, in partnership with the consulting firm Freese and Nichols, will conduct a comprehensive review of the city's existing codes. Many of Choctaw's current codes are outdated and no longer suit the city’s growth and development needs. This project aims to modernize these regulations with the following objectives: • User-Friendly Codes • Consolidated Definitions and Concepts • Clearer Approval Processes • Improved Cross-References The updated Unified Development Code will provide a clear, modern framework to guide Choctaw's future development effectively. 🚨 Fireworks Discharge Restrictions 🚨 Please note the following regulations for the discharge of fireworks in Choctaw: • Location Restrictions: No fireworks can be discharged within 500 feet of any fireworks stand, church, hospital, asylum, unharvested flammable agricultural crops, public schools, or public property. • Allowed Dates & Times: o July 1 - July 5: 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on private property o July 4 Only: 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. (if July 4 falls on a Monday-Thursday or Sunday, hours are 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.) • Permission Required: You must have written permission from the property owner to discharge fireworks on private property from July 1 through July 5. • Burn Ban Protocol: In the event of a countywide or statewide burn ban, the fire chief may impose additional restrictions as deemed necessary. Walmart in the City of Choctaw will be hosting a fundraiser this Friday, June 28 at 1pm to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Hey Choctaw citizens! Ready to fill up your pool and dive into summer? Make sure to get a pool fill adjustment on your utility bill by following these steps: 1. Notify the Utility Department BEFORE starting your pool fill: o In-person at City Hall o By phone: 405-390-8198 o Email Jangme Johnston, Utility Billing Supervisor, at jjohnston@choctawcity.org 2. Provide your information at least 24 hours in advance. 3. Contact the Utility Department IMMEDIATELY after your pool fill is completed. Remember, if a pool fill isn’t reported correctly, we can’t provide an adjustment. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Jangme Johnston, Utility Billing Supervisor. The Unified Development Code project for the City of Choctaw is in the works! Over the coming months, the Development Services and Planning Department will be working closely with a consulting firm, Freese and Nichols, to modernize and streamline development and code regulations. During this project, the focus will be to comprehensively review and update the City’s Zoning and Subdivision codes.
