During the August 15th Council Meeting, the City of Choctaw will officially declare September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The city would like to honor the incredible strength of children who are fighting or have fought childhood cancer. Residents and Business Owners! Alarm permits are required in the City of Choctaw. This permit ensures an enhanced sense of security and that law enforcement resources are optimized. In the event of an alarm activation, law enforcement can quickly and efficiently reach the homeowner to verify if it's a false alarm or a genuine emergency. This streamlined communication helps prevent unnecessary panic and disruption, while also enabling law enforcement to respond promptly to actual threats. It’s $25.00 to register your alarm and no fee for those 62 years and older. Alarm permits are not transferable for changes in ownership or leases. You can apply for a permit online or mail in an application with payment. Contact the permit technician for more questions or concerns at 405-390-2999.

It's time for the Pepper Festival! The event takes place at Choctaw Creek Park 2001 N Harper Rd from 6pm - 8pm on September 1st. There will be live music, vendors, delicious food, and a pepper eating contest! Hope to see you there!

The Choctaw Round Up Club is having a rodeo August 11th and 12th at 13700 NE 36th Choctaw, OK 73020. Gates open at 3:30pm, Pre-rodeo events begin at 6pm, and the rodeo begins at 8pm.

The city recognized Allison Yarbrough and Kelli Hosford for their dedication and support throughout the Choctaw-Nicoma Park Schools and the City of Choctaw. Mrs. Yarbrough volunteers her time to numerous organizations in and around the City of Choctaw. She is an active member of the Choctaw Elementary PTO and serves on the Junior Service League raising well over $30,000 for the Choctaw-Nicoma Park School programs. Mrs. Hosford oversees the Individualized Education Programs of over 1,400 differently abled Choctaw-Nicoma Park students and was critical in working with the special education department in establishing a district wide Special Education Olympics. Mrs. Hosford has worked with stakeholders to create two new critical programs, Project Search Program and the Bridges Program.

Announcement: On August 1st, city council adopted Ordinance No. 901-2023 which changed the time of regular council meetings from 7:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Meetings still remain on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. Please call City Hall if you have any questions (405) 390 - 8198.

Crews have shut off water on Overland Trail to repair a water main break. The surrounding area will also be affected. Repairs are expected to take approximately 4 - 6 hours. Thank you for your patience while our crews work through this repair.
